WASHINGTON, D.C. –– Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart issued the following statement regarding UNPACU leader, Jose Daniel Ferrer, who was forcefully removed from his home on October 1, 2019, and remains detained by the Cuban regime. Reports from his wife and children mention his deteriorating wellbeing and suspicious marks on his body.

“I remain profoundly concerned for the welfare of UNPACU leader and courageous independent journalist Jose Daniel Ferrer, who remains imprisoned in Cuba. Reportedly, he is gravely ill while being denied necessary medical care. The brutal regime in Cuba has the blood of thousands of innocents on its hands. We cannot remain silent in the face of this egregious injustice to one of Cuba’s heroes. I call on the international community to join me in demanding the immediate, unconditional release of Jose Daniel Ferrer and all political prisoners in Cuba.”
